How to Plan Ahead for Summer So You’re Not Forgotten

Have you ever looked at your website or social media and realized nothing has been updated in weeks?

It can happen surprisingly quickly. A busy month turns into a busy season, client work takes over, and communication gets pushed aside. Before long, you’re wondering whether clients have heard from you recently or if prospects even know you’re still there.

So summer can be useful for a different type of planning.

Instead of asking, “How can I keep up with everything?” it may be more helpful to ask, “What’s the minimum I can do to stay in touch?”

That shift changes everything.

Many bookkeepers approach summer as though they need to maintain the same pace they have during the rest of the year. If they can’t keep up with that pace, they stop altogether. It is possible for communication to occur beyond an “all or nothing”.

  • A simple client update email can go a long way.
  • A short post sharing a reminder or observation can keep your business visible.
  • Even a quick check-in helps remind people you’re still here and still helping clients.

Think about it from a client’s perspective. If they hear from you once or twice over the summer, they’ll feel that you’re engaged and available. If they hear nothing for three months, they may assume you’ve gone quiet.

The same is true for prospects.

Someone who discovers your website or social media doesn’t know whether you’re busy, on vacation, or taking a break. They only know what they can see. Long stretches of silence can sometimes create the impression that your business isn’t active, even when you’re fully booked. This doesn’t mean you need to spend your summer glued to a content calendar.

It means giving yourself a plan before things get busy.

Choose a few topics. Write a couple of emails. Schedule a few posts if that’s helpful. Keep it simple enough that you’ll follow through.

The goal isn’t to create more content. The goal is to stay connected.

When September arrives, you’ll be glad you don’t have to start from scratch. Your clients will still hear from you. Your business will still be visible. And you’ll have maintained the habit of staying in touch, even during a busy season.

If you’re wondering…

What if I already went quiet this year?
That’s okay. Start where you are. One email or one post is enough to reconnect.

How much communication is enough during the summer?
Less than you think. Consistency matters more than frequency.

Should I take a break from marketing altogether?
You can take a break from creating a lot of content. Staying in touch occasionally is often enough to maintain momentum.
